Caring for Little Teeth

Pediatric Dental Care In Fort St. John, BC

Maintaining proper oral health and hygiene is a life-long journey. At North Peace Dental, we’re proud to be a resource for parents in Fort St.John looking to develop proper oral hygiene habits and healthy, strong smiles for their children. Whether you’re bringing in your infant or toddler in for their first appointment, or you have an older child or teenager in need of routine or restorative care, we feel honored that you would consider us for your family’s oral health needs.

What to Expect At Your Child’s First Appointment

It is recommended that you bring your child in for their first dental appointment around their first birthday or as soon as their first tooth erupts; whichever comes first. If you are bringing in an infant or a young child, one of our dentists will inspect their gums and primary teeth to ensure their teeth are healthy and erupting properly.

If you have an older child who already has most or all of their permanent teeth, we will perform a cleaning and oral exam. X-rays may also be taken to get a better picture of your child’s oral health. During your child’s appointment, we’ll answer all of your questions and provide any information you need about your little one and their dental health.

The Importance of Routine Visits – Finding a Dental Home

Bringing your child in for routine dental appointments from a very young age creates the best oral health outcomes and has a number of benefits:

  • Your child will become comfortable with the process of seeing the dentist, allowing them to develop a genuine relationship with the team at North Peace Dental.

  • Our dentists will get to know your child’s unique oral health challenges and address them during each appointment.

  • Seeing your child every six months helps us track their oral health and development at regular intervals, and ensures that they get the right treatment at the right time.

At North Peace Dental, we offer a diverse range of dental services to set your little one up for oral health and happy teeth. From routine check-ups to specialty dental care, our robust range of services can be performed comfortably in our Fort St. John clinic. In addition to our in-clinic services, we also provide information in enhancing your child’s nutritional habits, allowing you and your child to experience the benefits of healthy and happy teeth well after an appointment.   Discover some of the pediatric dental services the we offer from below:

Digital X-Rays

Our office uses only fully digital radiology as to reduce radiation to your child by 25% of traditional film based systems.   Because our team strongly values minimizing our environmental footprint, we acknowledge that digital x-rays fulfill this goal by eliminating the need to use film-developing chemicals.

Fissure Sealants

Cavities like to form on the chewing surfaces of back teeth, especially first permanent molars that are hard to reach in little mouths. This caused by bacteria that grows in the tiny pits and fissures of back teeth.  We can prevent these cavities by painting a sealant material into the grooves.

Restorative Care

If your child has a cavity, restorative care is usually required. There are many options regarding the types of restorations, so see us at North Peace Dental for an exam and in depth conversation.

Space Maintenance

If a baby tooth is lost early or there is crowding of the teeth, space maintainers might be needed.  Every case is different so its best to come in for an exam and discussion.

Sports Dentistry

Children in BC are lucky to live in Fort St.John because they can get outdoors and be active all year round! Whether your child is involved in hockey, baseball, skiing, snowboarding, or mountain biking, we need to take extra precaution to protect their teeth and developing brains by using mouth guards and helmets.  Our team can help your child get fitted for a custom sports guard and identify teeth alignment that are more prone to trauma.

Special Needs

Children with special needs are always welcome at North Peace Dental.  Oftentimes, desensitization to the dental environment is required in order to make them feel comfortable. This involves several short visits closely spaced together.
